Kill A Mockingbird By Harper Lee - 1304 Words

Children Are What They Learn Not only have the adult characters in the book To Kill A Mockingbird set a solid ground of good morals and beliefs for the children in the book but also young readers decades later. Children are often influenced by adults in their life whether it has been a positive or negative moral aspect. Children often receive advice and encouragement from their guardians or adult figures. In author; Harper Lee s novel, To Kill A Mockingbird, readers observe three parents who have influenced their children heavily, in this essay readers will look further into Atticus Finch, Mr. Radley and Bob Ewell. To start off, Atticus Finch is the prime example of a parent who is the key to moral success rather than failure. He†¦show more content†¦Dubose has. She assumes that Ms.Dubose is just an angry, bitter old woman. Through Scout going with Jem each day to her house, Scout and Jem finally discover how courageous Mrs. Dubose is through battling through her drug addiction with morphine. This quote clearly shows that Scout learns about courage Bateman, Page 2 through the influence of Atticus, as well as Mrs. Dubose. It shows that Atticus does his best to steer his children in the right direction so they will properly mature into kind and loving people. In addition to Jem and Scout developing as mature adults, Scout learns moral success when she determines how â€Å"fighting with [Scout’s] head for a change...†(101). One can see this when Atticus is talking to her about the Tom Robinson trial. He tells her that several people in the town will say mean things about him, and that instead of attacking them, or fighting them, Scout should ignore them. He tells her to try fighting with her head for a change. Scout feels as if [She] fought Cecil [She] would let Atticus down. Atticus so rarely asked Jem and [Scout] to do something for him, [She] could take being called a coward for him (102). This quote illustrates that due to Atticus, Scout chose not to fight. Scout learns that it doesn t really matter what people say or think and that she doesn t need to fight people if they insult or be the bigger person. Through Atticus asking her to fight with her head Scout matures. In conclusion Atticus as a
